No case yet despite ASP complaint

Dantewada * Marawi names two persons and 40 others, says Salwa Judum leaders engineered attack.

It’s difficult even for an Additional Superintendent of Police to file a criminal case in the strife-torn Dantewada where conflict between Maoists and Salwa Judum activists has escalated following this month’s violence.

In a major twist to the latest incident in Dantewada,Additional Superintendent of Police D S Marawi on Sunday lodged a written complaint at a local police station, naming a couple of people and 40 others, while pointing out that Salwa Judum leaders had engineered the attack on social activist Swami Agnivesh and others at Dornapal on Saturday.

Intriguingly, the Sukma police are yet to register the case even several hours after Marawi,an officer in the same area, lodged the complaint.

“I have lodged a written complaint with the Sukma police and provided a detailed account of the incident in which I myself,Swami Agnivesh and media persons were roughed up at Dornapal. I have already named a couple of people and about 40 others whom I can identify,” the additional SP told the The Indian Express over phone from Sukma.

“The procedure is that Sukma police should register a case on the basis of my report. Till now, they have not registered a case for reasons unknown to me. If they don’t do it,I will move the court of law and take up the matter with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).”

In the complaint, the additional SP has pointed out that the incident was an “outcome of a criminal conspiracy” as those indulged in the crime shouted “Dalal ko mar do”.

He has also stated that the crowd, mostly comprising known Salwa Judum leaders, smashed window panes of his vehicle in which Agnivesh was supposed to proceed to Chintalnar.

Marawi, now posted in Sukma, had survived a number of landmine blasts in the past during his postings in the Naxalite area. In one incident of landmine blast,he was the lone survivor.
