Nine shopkeepers have been arrested in Baramulla district for allegedly black marketing essential commodities which are in short supply due to closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
“Nine shopkeepers were arrested and booked under relevant laws for indulging in black marketing of essential items in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district,” an official spokesman said today.
He said checking squads,formed after reports of overcharging were received from various quarters,also destroyed more than 300 kilograms of rotten vegetables in Uri tehsil market of the district.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon has directed the concerned authorities to ensure that the traders of essential commodities display the rate list prominently.
Samoon also directed Director CAPD Mushtaq Ahmed to advertise the rates of commodities like rice,wheat,sugar,kerosene,LPG,milk,eggs,meat,chicken and bread through print and electronic media.
