Chief Minister Budhadeb Bhattacharjee has decided that the state will move the Supreme Court, challenging the Calcutta High Court order to hand over the Netai massacre probe to the CBI. The CBI is likely to take charge of the case on Tuesday.

A counsel of the state government said on Monday that the CM has instructed officials to file an application in Supreme Court as soon as possible. “The application will be filed on the grounds that the High Court issued the order when the CID achieved some success conducting the investigation under the monitoring of the court itself,” he said.

After the arrest of two persons named in the FIR last Monday, the CID was hopeful of further arrests.

On Friday, the HC had directed the CBI to take charge of the case and the accused in CID custody. The agency was asked to begin investigations as soon as possible but even after three days, the CBI is yet to take charge. Anuj Sharma,DIG,CID,said they did not receive any communication from the CBI. There has been no further investigation since Friday’s court order.
