The Navy Wednesday test fired Brahmos cruise missile from its new frigate INS Tarkash off the coast of Goa.

The missile was fired as part of acceptance test firing of the Russian-built frigate, inducted into the Navy in November, and hit its target 290 km away. The missile performed high-level C-manoeuvre at pre-determined flight path and successfully hit the target, BrahMos Aerospace chief A Sivathanu Pillai was quoted by PTI as saying.

The test firing signifies that INS Tarkash is now fully operational with the surface-to-surface missile. The warship is equipped with a multi-role combat suite that includes surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles.
