The Kerala Police have registered a case against six naval officers, including a Commodore,of Southern Naval Command in Kochi after the wife of a lieutenant complained of torture and sexual harassment by her husband and his colleagues.

Police said a case has been registered against four lieutenants, including her husband,a commodore,a captain and his wife under IPC. Her husband’s parents and his sister have also been listed as accused. The husband has moved the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

Police sources said the woman had complained that her husband and in-laws had been torturing her for dowry, and her husband had forced her to sleep with his colleagues and senior officials.

The police said the woman,a native of Orissa, had first approached the police in Delhi, where she is preparing for civil service examination. “We are probing into the alleged role of the officials. She had complained to the Southern Naval Chief in the first week of March, but no action was taken by the Navy,’’ said a police officer.

Southern Naval command spokesperson Roy Francis said the Southern Naval Command will cooperate with the probe to clear the name of the officers who intervened in the line of duty to resolve the domestic discord of a young officer. He said the wife of the officer has levelled unfair allegations against superior officers in her husband’s chain of command, their spouses and other officers who have interacted with her.
