Following Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadavs directive to speed up the process of tranquilising the tiger roaming in Rehmankheda forest of Lucknow for the past three months, the forest department has now roped in the Assistant Director of Nandankanan Zoological Park in Orissa,Kamal Lochan Purohit, for the operation.
Before Purohit, the department called Nawab Shafath Ali Khan of Hyderabad,a hunter who killed the 2009 maneater tigress of Faizabad, for tranquilising the animal, but failed.
Earlier in the week, the CM,while reviewing the departments functioning, had instructed the forest officers to expedite their efforts to tranquilise the tiger, said J S Asthana,Chief Wildlife Warden,Uttar Pradesh.
We have sought the help of Kamal Lochan Purohit of Nandankanan who has a lot of experience in tranquilising wild animals, Asthana said.
Purohit told The Indian Express that tranquilisating the Rehmankheda tiger is going to be a tough task.
Having arrived in Lucknow on Saturday night,Purohit will hold a meeting with forest officials involved in the operation on Monday.
