Munnar land row: Govt calls meet on June 24

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy reiterated the governments commitment to flushing out those grabbing land,but said they would not go for forceful eviction.

In the wake of blatant instances of encroachments in Keralas Munnar hill station with political support,the Congress government on Wednesday decided to convene an all-party meeting on June 24.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy reiterated the governments commitment to flushing out those grabbing land,but said they would not go for forceful eviction. The situation is grave. But we will resort to legal action to evict the encroachers,after protecting the interests of genuine farmers and tribals. The government will not wreak havoc in the name of reclaiming the land. Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan will be invited for the meeting, he said.
