Ending speculation about any possible pre-poll tie-ups between all non-Congress and non-BJP forces for a Third Front at the Centre,Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav said Monday that a Third Front could be a reality only after the 2014 elections results are out and not before that.
It is obvious that neither the Congress nor the BJP will get the required numbers for a majority. So a Third Front will be formed after the polls to form the government at the Centre, Yadav said.
But he refused to comment on who would be the prime ministerial candidate for the Third Front should it stake claim to form the next government. Someone from the front will be the next PM,but there is no name as of now, he said.
Explaining why a pre-poll alliance between Third Front parties was not possible,Mulayam said that such an alliance at this stage could impact each partys ticket distribution process and that could lead to differences. All parties of the front will contest polls on their own strength and then get together after the next general election, he said.
The CPM and the Left has already made it clear that they dont see the possibility of a Third Front emerging before 2014 elections but are in talks with non-Congress secular parties to form an anti-communal platform,an initiative which is seen as an attempt to bring together the non-BJP parties,which could evolve into an alternative. CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat has already met leaders like Mulayam and the JDUs Sharad Yadav inviting them to a convention being planned on October 30. Sources in the CPM said the party has opened channels of communication with YSR Congress.
