In an unprecedented move, the Special Police Establishment (SPE),which works under the Lokayukta, had to make a written submission in a Special Court giving a clean chit to its own boss P P Naolekar after his integrity had been questioned.
The SPE submitted an 11-page report to the Indore-based Special Court, which had ordered a probe into an alleged illegal deal involving land worth Rs 100 crore near Sugnidevi College in Indore.
The complainant had alleged that he did not expect a fair trial as long as the former Supreme Court judge justice Naolekar was the state Lokayukta.
Suresh Seth,a former minister, had leveled the allegation after Naolekar’s son Sandeep,an Indore-based businessman, accompanied Industries Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya to China on an official tour. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had headed the delegation to China. In Seths complaint,Vijayvargiya was the main accused.
Seth had alleged in the court that Naolekar was made part of the official delegation only to ensure a clean chit to Vijayvargiya and that the government bore all the expenses. The court had asked the SPE to submit a written reply. In the reply,Special Public Prosecutor Saket Vyas said Naolekar’s son had paid on his own,and the SPE had completed investigation into the deal 19 months ago.
