A senior IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh government and his wife were among four persons killed when their Innova car plunged into a deep gorge in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir Thursday,official sources said.
Three others an IPS officer,his wife and an IAS probationer were injured in the accident.
Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh Industrial Board Dharma Rao,his wife Vidya Rao and two others died in the accident,while Inspector General (Vigilance),Bhopal,Ashok Awasthi,his wife Manjoori Awasthi and probationary IAS officer Shivindra Singh were injured,the police said. The two other deceased were identified as a woman named Kumet Singh,and cab driver Chemet Dorjay,a resident of Hamaskot in Kargil district of Ladakh,sources said.
The police said that the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a 300 metre gorge at Khardungla Pass,the highest motorable road in the world,at around 9.30 am. The group of senior officers from Madhya Pradesh,along with their family members,were on a pleasure trip to Nobra valley and were on the way to Leh when the mishap occurred.
Police spokesperson said the injured persons have been shifted to District Hospital,Leh,for treatment.
