Pakistan-born Bollywood starlet Laila Khan, who, along with her mother, three siblings and niece went missing from Mumbai last year, may have been murdered in Kishtwar in J&K.
The J&K Police are now looking for Pervez Ahmed Tak,a local contractor in whose rented shop the SUV belonging to Lailas mother Saleena Patel was found last month. Tak,who unsuccessfully contested the 2008 Assembly election as NCP candidate,is absconding but the police have detained his close friend Shakir Hussain for questioning.
The police suspect it was Tak who brought Laila and her family to Kishtwar as part of a bigger conspiracy. Tak was known to the family and had stayed with them in Mumbai for some time, said Kishtwar DIG Garib Dass.
Dass said they are looking into various theories, one of them is that Laila and her family were murdered over a property dispute.
Saleena was married to Nadir Shah Patel,a multi-millionaire,for many years before they divorced in 2006,Dass said. Her children, however, have a claim to his property, the DIG pointed out.
Dass said they have contacted Patel, who is out of India at present, and he assured his cooperation with the investigation upon his return.
