Meghalaya rebels gun down two BSF men

The militants also snatched two Insas rifles from the victims before escaping.

Two BSF personnel were killed when heavily armed militants,suspected to be from a break-away faction of the Achik National Volunteer Council,attacked them at an observation post on the India-Bangladesh border in South West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya on Friday.

BSF sources said the two slain personnel — Sushil Biswas and Pappu Kumar Yadav — were on duty when a group of militants attacked them. While Biswas died on the spot,Yadav breathed his last while being evacuated by a helicopter to Guwahati.

The incident took place around 1.30 am at the observation post,about 150 km from Shillong. The militants also snatched two Insas rifles from the victims before escaping.

It was only on Tuesday that another militant group,GNLA,had killed five Meghalaya Police personnel.

Incidentally,on Thursday night,the BSF had raided a mlitants’ hideout in the Angratoli reserved forest.
