While India gears up for general elections, there is another front on which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is not taking matters easy the global economic crisis. He has deputed trusted aide Montek Singh Ahluwalia to deal with all issues related to this in the run-up to the crucial G-20 Summit in London on April 2 as fears grow over protectionist tendencies. Ahluwalia was in London along with a battery of officials attending preparatory meetings. He is also likely to represent India at the finance ministers meeting ahead of the Summit. For all practical purposes, the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman will be in charge of fashioning Indias response and coming up with a set of economic CBMs which the Summit intends to agree upon to boost global markets.
