A man allegedly killed his one-year-old daughter as he suspected that she was born out of an illicit relationship his wife had with another man.
The incident came to light after the girls mother registered a complaint with Warje police on Sunday morning.
Warje police said Govind Tukaram Padile,30,has been staying with his wife and daughter in Akashnagar area for the last couple of years.
Inspector Sunil Darekar said,Padile used to fight with his wife since the birth of the baby as he believed she was born out of an illicit relationship. On Friday evening,he told his wife that he has collected firewood from the bushes behind their house and took his wife and the baby to there with him. They started quarelling when he suggested that they stay there as it had become dark,and he hit her with an object on her head and fled from the spot with the baby.
Darekar added,When his wife regained consciousness early Saturday,she went back home,looking for her daughter,but when she found both of them missing,she filed a complaint on Sunday morning. Police detained her husband and after interrogation ,he confessed that he had strangled the baby and dumped her body in an abandoned stone quarry.
We have recovered the body and Padile has been arrested, said Darekar.
