A 24-YEAR-OLD man,who was allegedly prevented from marrying the sister of his brothers wife,hacked to death five members of his family,including his aged mother,in Vaishali Wednesday night. While three died on the spot,two died during treatment on Thursday.
Police said the incident took place at a village under Sehdei police outpost of Vaishali around 8.30 pm when Sunil Giri learnt that the girl he wanted to marry his sister-in-laws sister was getting engaged to another person on Thursday.
As his sister-in-law and other family members did not approve of his plan to marry the girl,he killed his mother,sister-in-law,two nephews aged five and seven years and his 10-year-old niece. Sunil Giri is absconding,the police said. They added that searches were on to nab him.
Mahnar sub-divisional police officer Kamini Bala said: Earlier,we were told that the person is mentally unstable but now villagers are giving another side of the story. The truth will come out after investigation. Villagers told the police that Giri was a drunkard and unemployed. His family had resisted his marriage because he was unemployed.
