Man killed,several injured in fresh SP-BSP clashes

One person was killed and more than a dozen injured in fresh clashes between SP and BSP workers over the past 24 hours across Uttar Pradesh.

State police chief Atul,who on Friday was asked by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to take measures to control the violence following the poll results,said he had issued directives to all district police chiefs to deal sternly with such incidents. The accused have been arrested in most of the cases,the DGP said.

An exchange of fire between SP and BSP workers left a youth dead and five critically injured in Sandila area of Hardoi district on Saturday.

Hardoi Additional SP Anil Kumar Singh said the clash was the result of a rivalry between the pradhan,BSP’s Ayub Khan,and former pradhan,SP’s Mohammad Rehan.

Singh said the trigger was a land dispute in Tikra Barar village between Sarfaraj alias Munna and Raees Ahmad. Ayub Khan joined Munna,while Rehan arrived,accompanied by his men,to support Raees. The groups clashed and then engaged in firing,in which Munna’s son Pappu,25,was killed. Rehan and two of his associates have been arrested.

Abdul Mannan,the former BSP minister who lost to SP’s Kunwar Mahavir Singh from Sandila,alleged the injured were BSP workers who were attacked by SP workers.

In a separate incident,SP-supported Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya’s supporters allegedly assaulted the driver of local Zila Panchayat member Archana Tiwari at Nariyawan village in Pratapgarh.

Pratapgarh SP Deepak Kumar said Archana Tiwari is wife of historysheeter Manoj Tiwari,who had an old enmity with Pradip Shukla,a supporter of Raja Bhaiya.

In Ballia,BSP and SP supporters clashed at Bhuj Chhapra village. Five persons were injured in the clash. Ballia SP Ram Bharose said the clash was a sequel to an incident between the two groups.

In Auraiya district,four people were injured in a clash between two groups at Jhabra village.
