The NIA is probing whether the 2006 Malegaon attack had any link with a bomb blast a few months earlier at the house of an RSS activist in Nanded which killed two people. It is questioning one of the injured in the Nanded blast,Maruti Wagah.
Investigators believe that those involved in the Malegaon blasts were trained at a camp organised by RSS activists, including Ramji Kalsangre,Sandeep Dange and Sunil Joshi,at Bagli near Indore in January 2006.
Kamal Chauhan, arrested in February this year for the 2007 Samjhauta train blasts, too was trained at Bagli, said officials. Investigators have also determined that in both the Malegaon attack and the Samjhauta blasts,a similar Orpat alarm clock was used.
The blast at the house of RSS activist Naresh Laxman Rajkondwar had killed Rajkondwar and his friend Himanshu Panse alias Sardar. The CBI had investigated the blast, chargesheeting 12 including Wagah. They were later released on bail.
Wagah has been questioned about his Nanded links, alleged association with other accused in Hindu terror cases and the training he received at Bagli.
The NIA has already determined links between Sunil Joshi and Panse a diary recovered after Joshis death showed they were in touch, with Panses number saved under the name Sardar.
Wagah, however, has reportedly denied knowing Joshi,Kalsangre or Dange, saying he had only seen their pictures on TV and in newspapers. Asked how his mobile number was in Joshis diary under the name Srikant,Wagah said Panse might have given the number. However,he admitted that the mobile number was being used by him, said a senior official.
On Nanded blast,Wagah is learnt to have said that on that day,he had invited Panse and his friends at one Naresh Laxmans house for a party. They had drinks and ate khichdi while watching the film Rang De Basanti.
Suddenly,Wagah said,a bomb exploded, which killed Panse and Laxman and injured him. The police arrested him from hospital.
Wagah also told cops he had visited Pune,Nagpur,Singarh to attend camps. He was also questioned about his association with Abhinav Bharat and Sadhvi Pragya, one of the accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts. However,he denied any knowledge of the 2008 Malegaon case.
Wagah told NIA that he met Panse at some RSS programme and Panse later introduced to other members of his team.
The NIA has been asked to re-investigate the 2006 Malegaon blasts, which killed 31 people and injured over a 100 outside two mosques.
The Maharashtra ATS had chargesheeted nine Muslims for the blasts but disclosures by Swami Aseemanand revealed them to be innocent.
