Of the 59 government employees in Madhya Pradesh against whom the Lokayukta conducted raids over the past two years,41 were found to have assets running into crores. Interestingly,almost all of them are low-rung employees such as supervisors or assistant engineers.
The Opposition has accused the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government of going after only the small fry in corruption cases,leaving out senior officers and those wielding influence.
As per figures submitted in the Assembly,the Lokayukta received a total of 4,239 complaints in 2010 and 2011 and took cognisance in 682 cases. Of the 82 registered cases,59 have reached courts of law.
Leading the pack of tainted employees in MP are IAS couple Arvind and Tinoo Joshi,whose assets have been worked out to Rs 240 crore. The rest of the list includes clerks,peons,assistant engineers,jailers,tehsildars and deputy rangers.
Some of the names are Dr Vinod Lehri,a government surgeon in Nagda (Rs 10.63 crore); Assistant Engineer R K Dwiwedi posted at Ujjain (Rs 8.22 crore); District Excise Officer,Hoshangabad,B P Bharke (Rs 5.07 crore); Indore Jail Superintendent Purushottam Somkuvar (Rs 4.67 crore); Deputy Director (Garden),Indore,Shivdutt Pande (Rs 2.41 crore); Bhopal Municipal Corporation clerk Mansur Ali (Rs 1.49 crore).
