Lokayukta: Apex court agrees to hear Modi govt plea

The Gujarat government had moved the Supreme Court against the Governor’s choice of candidate as Lokayukta,saying that she exercised personal discretion to “suffocate” the voice of the Narendra Modi government.

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear an appeal filed by the Gujarat government challenging Governor Kamla Beniwal’s decision to “unilaterally” appoint Justice (retd) R A Mehta as the Lokayukta. Admitting the appeal,a Bench of Justices B S Chauhan and J S Khehar have marked three consecutive days starting February 20 to hear the case.
