Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday assured the first-time MLAs that he would try to ensure adequate debates on various issues during the coming budget session of the Assembly. He also appealed to them to learn the rules of parliamentary democracy to become good legislators.
Akhilesh was speaking at the orientation programme meant for first-time MLAs of the UP Assembly. Of the total 403,167 MLAs,including 19 women,were elected to the Assembly for the first time. However,151 first-time MLAs attended the orientation programme.
Akhilesh said voters always have high expectations from those who are elected the first time. Referring to the old tradition of good debates in the House,Akhilesh said he would try to run the House for a good period of time. He underlined the need for full preparation before participating in a debate.
The members will get opportunity to speak on the subject of their choice, he said. He also added that the House should be run as per rules.
Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey told the MLAs that the budget session,beginning from May 28 would continue till the second week of July.
