Imposters serve jail term of CPM leader,4 others
BURDWAN: Five imposters have been found serving the jail terms of a local CPM leader and four others. Madan Kshetrapal,an elected Zilla Parishad member of the CPM,Sanjoy Singh,Nirmal Majumdar,Debashis Roy and Ajoy Bhumij were sentenced to a prison term on October 30 for ransacking and looting the brickfield of a resident of Rasulpur village,Hari Ghosh,a few years ago. The imposters came to light in reports filed by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Burdwan South) and Officer-in-Charge of Memari police station to Chief Judicial Magistrate

Elangovans house attacked,3 arrested
CHENNAI: Petrol bombs were hurled on the residence of former Union minister E V K S Elangovan,a strident LTTE critic,here and three persons of a little-known pro-Eelam outfit arrested in connection with the attack. The attack occurred late on Friday night after Elangovan,senior state Congress leader,had torn down posters and banners eulogising slain LTTE founder V Prabhakaran on the occasion of the outfit leaders birthday at Erode on Friday. Elangovan was not present during the attack on his residence. No one was reported injured.
Suspected SIMI man kills three in MP
KHANDWA: A motorcycle-borne youth suspected to be a SIMI activist shot dead three persons including an ATS constable in broad daylight on Saturday. He first shot at ATS constable Sitaram Batham (32) in the Teen Pulia area,City Superintendent of Police S K Nashine said. The assailant then possibly ran towards Ganeshtalai area where he shot dead an advocate standing in front of his house,he said,adding that he later shot a bank official Ravishankar Pare and fled from the spot.
4 run over by train in Thane
MUMBAI: Four persons were killed after being run over by a speeding train on the rail tracks near Bhayander in neighbouring Thane district,the police said on Saturday. The incident took place around half-an-hour after midnight when the victims were crossing the tracks,senior police inspector N T More said. The deceased,all aged between 25-30,have not been identified yet.
Himalayan black bear shot dead in Sikkim
GANGTOK: A Himalayan black bear was shot dead by the police in Ben Nambong village in South Sikkim for posing a threat to the local people,forest officials said on Saturday. Personnel of the Sikkim Armed Police shot dead the bear on the orders of the forest authorities on Friday after attempts to catch the animal failed,the officials said.
Tripura govt bans mobiles in schools
AGARTALA: The Tripura government has issued a ban on the use of mobile phones by students in schools,officials said here on Saturday. The decision to ban mobile phones in the school campus was taken in the state Cabinet on Friday. The Cabinet allowed teachers to use mobiles outside classrooms.
