A top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander,Bilal Ahmad Dar alias Huzaifa, has been arrested in an operation by Sopore police from Srinagar.
However,a fortnight ago,Lashkar had announced his expulsion from the outfit. We have arrested him (Huzaifa), SP Sopore,Imtiyaz Hussain told The Sunday Express. He was responsible for the killings of policemen and civilians and masterminded several attacks. He was one of the most wanted militants.
Police sources said he was arrested some days ago after Sopore police raided his safe-house after a tip-off about his presence in Srinagar.
While the police said Huzaifa was heading the Lashkar operations in Srinagar,a Lashkar spokesman had made a statement to local newspapers announcing his expulsion, without specifying the reasons.
Police sources said Huzaifa was also serving as a link between Lashkars north and south Kashmir modules and termed his arrest as a major setback for the militant outfit.
In his twenties,Huzaifa,a resident of Krankshivan Colony in Sopore, joined Lashkar-e-Toiba a year and a half ago. However,it was several months later that he came on the police radar. His activities were first noticed in January 2010, said a police officer. He said the militant commander immediately rose to ranks in Lashkar.
He was involved in the killing of Mohammad Ashraf Dar in Sopore, SP Imtiyaz said. He was also the mastermind behind the killing of policemen at Hazratbal and Batamaloo.
