A day after an alert was sounded after a mystery helicopter was spotted landing for a short while along the Ratnagiri coast at Harne-Palde before taking off,the chopper has been identified.
The Mumbai Police have recorded the statement of the pilot,Capt Nayyer,in which he has said that the helicopter owned by the New Vitra Company was flying from Belgaum to Juhu aerodrome in Mumbai,and that he was forced to make an emergeny landing due to low visibility and to check on fuel levels.
On Saturday,the police in the region expressed suspicion when a local policemen spotted two unidentified persons getting off the helicopter and conducting what they called a recce of the area. The two men walked around for about 10 minutes after alighting. They then boarded it and flew towards an unidentified location,the policeman had reported.
According to the police,the pilot has further stated that since visibilty was low in the ghat and as he wanted to calculate the fuel stock,he had to make an emergency landing on the coast.
Pratap Dighavkar,Deputy Commisisoner of Police (zone 9) said the pilot told him over phone him that after calculating the fuel stock of the helicopter they flew directly to Mumbai.
We are conducting investigations along with the Ratnagiri police to find out more about New Vitra Company and the incident. The pilot and the co-spassengers landed in Juhu,which falls under the Santacruz police station,so we recorded their statements, said Dighavkar.
When contacted Ratnagiri SP Pradeep Raskar said,We have called the pilot and the co-passegers to Ratnagiri on Monday to record statements. However,the Mumbai police,DGCA and Air Traffic Control in Mumbai are carrying out the investigations so far.
