With the police still to identity the man who slit the throat of second-year BPharm student Nitin Chauhan in the emergency room of Meerut Medical College, where he was admitted after being thrown out of a moving train, his relatives, led by local BJP MLA Satya Prakash Agarwal, created a ruckus at the office-cum-residence of the SSP Monday. They were demanding immediate arrest of the killer and punitive action against the medical college staff.
Meanwhile, one of the three police teams formed to arrest the killer has been sent to Aligarh, where a mobile number to which Nitin used to frequently call has been traced.
The resident of Jatpura Sumali village in Amroha district was pushed out of Jalandhar Express perhaps by the same man who later killed him in hospital, police said.
A railway safai karamchari found him lying unconscious on tracks at Cantonment Station and shifted him to the medical college. Nitin, who had come to Meerut to pursue BPharm 15 months ago,had scored 76 per cent marks in intermediate and 72 per cent in high school. He was the only son of his parents who have two daughters.
Angry at the slow pace of investigation, his father Rajbeer and BJP workers led by Agarwal virtually laid a siege to the office-cum-residence of SSP Om Prakash Singh for nearly an hour and raised anti-police and anti-government slogans.
Not arresting the killer is height of police incompetency. This is the first-of-its-kind case in which a badly injured patient has been killed in the emergency room of the medical college where hundreds are present 24X7, said Agarwal.
The SSP said: We are working on many possibilities but have yet to establish the murder motive. The victim was in regular touch with four girls and this could be the reason for his murder.
