Key ministers away,Cabinet defers decision on food Bill

The Cabinet on Monday deferred a decision on the Food Security Bill after three key members,Finance Minister P Chidambaram

The Cabinet on Monday deferred a decision on the Food Security Bill after three key members,Finance Minister P Chidambaram,Defence Minister A K Antony and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad,could not attend the meeting as they had to rush to Chennai to meet DMK chief M Karunanidhi,after he threatened to pull out of the UPA.

“The food Bill has been deferred by the Cabinet for tomorrow’s meeting,” Food Minister K V Thomas told reporters after the meeting.

The Cabinet also gave its approval to amendments to two important legislations,one regarding bribery of foreign public officials (FPO) and officials of public international organisations (OPIO).

The other pertains to electronic delivery of services and provides for “delivery of public services through electronic mode including the receipt of forms and applications,issue or grant of licence,permit,certificate, receipt and payment of money”.
