Keran op enters third week,Army recovers cache of arms

As the operation to flush out armed infiltrators in Keran sector entered its third week,the Army on Monday displayed large amount of weapons recovered from the slain infiltrators. The cache includes AK rifles,pistols,fence cutters,night vision binoculars,bullet proof jackets and currency notes. Meanwhile,jawans injured in the encounter at Shala Bhatu said the infiltrators are being helped by Pakistani soldiers.

In last three days,the Army has killed seven infiltrators in Fateh Gali and Gujjardar areas and also busted a militant hideout at Venkora Baramulla,95 kilometers from the Shala Bhatu where massive combing operation against 30-35 infiltrators is underway.

The Army,displayed the weapons recovered in Baramulla,that include a Disposal Rocket Launcher,two Rocket Propelled Grenades,one Rifle AK 56,four magazines of Rifle AK 56,286 rounds of Rifle AK 56,one pistol,one pistol magazine,18 rounds of pistol ammunition,one radio set.

Officiating Brigadier General Staff,15 Corps,Col Sanjay Mitra said effective cordon is in place in Keran sector with complete control and domination of the area. He said six AK rifles,one sniper rifle,10 pistols,currency notes and heavy clothings and large quantity of war-like stores were recovered.

The injured jawans,who are admitted to Base Hospital in Srinagar,said 20-30 militants are hiding in forests in Keran sector. “The moment we made any movement,we were being fired from Pakistani posts,’’ Rifle man,Kiran Kumar said.

The Army has said six soldiers have suffered injuries in the Shala Bhatu operation. Sources said the operation has entered its final stage and the Army has completed its Shala Bhatu search operation.

Meanwhile,spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry said,“As regard to the current situation,our armed forces who are responsible of sanctity undertaking currently appropriate necessary measures …based on the outcome of those efforts,we will take the further necessary action,as appropriate.”
