The Karnataka Government on Thursday set the ball rolling on the construction of a Rs 230-crore grand “Suvarna Soudha” here on the lines of the majestic “Vidhan Soudha” (state secretariat) in Bangalore for holding winter sessions.
The foundation stone for the mega structure, which will come up on a 130-acre plot, touted as a dream of the people of north Karnataka, was laid on the outskirts of the city by CM B S Yeddyurappa.
Speaking at the function,Yeddyurappa said the state Cabinet, which met here on Thursday morning, took some major decisions on the development of backward regions of north Karnataka.
He gave no details, saying that since the legislature’s special session was on here,he would disclose the decisions while replying to a debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address,to be held probably on Saturday.
The Chief Minister said the ‘Suvarna Soudha’ would boast of the same facilities available in Vidhan Soudha.
