J&K: IED defused on national highway

The Army has claimed that a major tragedy was averted when its personnel detected an Improvised Electronic Device (IED) at Shalteng on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway

The Army has claimed that a major tragedy was averted when its personnel detected an Improvised Electronic Device (IED) at Shalteng on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway on Tuesday. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s cavalcade had used the same route to visit Tangmarg an hour before the IED was detected,the Army said,claiming that the pattern of IED was similar to that of Boston bombings in the US.

The Army said that its intelligence network of 2 Rashtiya Rifles detected the powerful IED — packed in a pressure cooker that was concealed in a gunny bag — at around 2 pm. Defence spokesperson said: “The bomb disposal squad of the 2 Rashtriya Rifles defused the IED. The timely detection of the IED averted a major tragedy on the national highway.”
