Lashing out at the proposed hike in natural gas price that she alleged was done in the interest of a private company,Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Monday said the next government at the Centre,in which her party would be a constituent, will change the pricing policy.
The Congress-led government that has the mandate to govern only till May 2014 does not have the moral right to decide on the pricing effective from April 2014. Let the next dispensation decide on the matter. If they are not willing to repeal the decision,my party, which will have policy-making powers after the next election, will take decision to change this policy, Jaya said in a statement.
The people of India, not any private entity, were the owners of natural resources, she said, charging that doubling the price of natural gas was done at the behest of a private company. Though she did not refer to the company by name,Jaya left little to imagination when she added that the company should have been punished for not producing the assured minimum gas from KG D-6 basin instead of rewarding with a windfall profit.
Questioning the rationale behind pricing domestic production at the same rate as international market rate,Jaya said this wrong policy would have its impact on important allied industries like fertilisers and power plants. The end victim of this cycle was the common man, pointed out Jaya.
