Japan royal couple meet PM,Pranab

They also visited Jawaharlal Nehru University,where they met students and teachers in the Japanese studies programme.

Japan’s Emperor Akihito Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the need to protect global environment,Japanese officials said here.

According to the Emperor’s press secretary Sakuro Tanino,they discussed the aspects of renewable energy,especially the potential for solar energy.

Singh expressed gratitude for the developmental assistance rendered by Japan,especially in the Delhi Metro project.

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko also met President Pranab Mukherjee. They visited Rajghat to pay their tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

They also visited Jawaharlal Nehru University,where they met students and teachers in the Japanese studies programme.

This is their second bilateral visit in 53 years to India.
