Three days after six persons were killed in a cycle bomb blast in Jalpaiguri,the police have arrested a former Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) leader and launched a search operation for top leaders of the underground outfit.
We arrested Chandan Roy,a former KLO member,from Panbari area here Thursday. Our investigations are on the right path, Amit Javalgi,Jalpaiguri SP said.
He added that some people have been detained in connection with the blast and are being interrogated to find out their role in the blast.
To avoid a law and order issue,District M Pritha Sarkar has imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC in some places of Jalpaiguri in view of procession of some political parties. Section 144 has been imposed in the Paharpur area where the blast took place and near the DMs office, Javalgi said,adding the Kamtapur Peoples Party was scheduled to hold a meeting in the area. However,we will not allow them to enter the town, he said.
Police sources said text messages in Chandan Roys mobile have established the former KLO members active involvement in the incident. Police are yet to trace the owner of the SIM card found in the bag tied to the cycle on which the bomb was strapped.
