From real security reasons prompted by the Lahore attack on Sri Lankan cricketers, the fate of the IPL is now actually down to egos besides manpower management issues. The revised IPL timetable did give a window, admit many officials, but state police departments in some cases have their own axe to grind with IPL chief Lalit Modi. The one provocation apparently was that Modi and his associates, including franchisees, irked senior officers by bluntly refusing requests for free passes and such facilities last time around. Now,many officers are pressuring the respective state governments to make the franchisees shell out whopping sums for security. Chandigarh police has already taken the lead and is said to have quoted a sum of over Rs 1 crore to provide security cover to the players and support staff for the matches that will be held at Mohali.
