Ishqiya at Cairo film festival

Ishqiya will now be shown at the 33th Cairo International Film Festival,to be held between November 30 and December 9.

After making rounds of various international film festivals,Ishqiya will now be shown at the 33th Cairo International Film Festival,to be held between November 30 and December 9.

This year the Cairo Film Festival will take place under the presidency of the actor Dr Ezzat Abou Ouf and the honorary president,the international superstar Omar Sharif. They were appointed by the ministry of culture Farouk Hosny.

Pirated CDs of Endhiran in TN; 2 held

Pirated CDs of Rajinikant’s latest mega film Enthiran (Robot) were seized from nearby Papanasam,near Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu and two persons were arrested in this connection recently.

Acting on a tip-off,police seized 47 CDs of the multi-crore film,which hit cinemas across the world on October 1 and is doing well at the box-office.

Vasudevan (43) and Sushil (25),who are running video parlours in Papanasam,were arrested for selling the CDS of the film in which Rajinikant stars with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The trilingual film,directed by Shankar,is touted to be one of the most expensive ventures in Indian cinema,with producer Kalanithi Maran launching an aggressive marketing blitzkrieg to promote it.

Police also seized 200 pirated CDs of other new Tamil films from the two shops.

That Girl In Yellow Boots to premiere at SAIFF

Director Anurag Kashyap’s That Girl In Yellow Boots is to have a US premiere on October 27. It will be the opening film for the 7th Annual 2010 South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF),presented by HBO and will shown at the SVA Theatre in New York.

This is after the film received rave response at the Venice Film Festival and the North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. That Girl …is a Hindi thriller set in Pune and Mumbai and revolves around a girl named Ruth,who comes to India in search of her Bengali photographer father. On her journey,Ruth bribes bureaucrats to extend her tourist visa and learns parlour massage. She supports a useless,drug-addicted boyfriend and then comes in the eyes of the underworld.

The film stars Naseeruddin Shah,Kalki Koechlin,Prashant Prakash,Gulshan Devaiya,Shivkumar Subramaniam,Divya Jagdale,Kumud Mishra and Kartik Krishnan amongst others. Written by Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin,it has music by Naren Chandavarkar and cinematography by Rajeev Ravi. The film is co-produced by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC).

Marathi director to make Hindi film

Sanjay Surkar,the four-time National award winning director of Marathi films,is now making his foray into Hindi with BRC Productions’ maiden Hindi film that goes on floors on October 16. Produced by Prakash Choube and Sagar Choube,the film has football as its backdrop. The film has music by Aadesh Shrivastava and cinematography by Sanjay Jadhav. The cast and other credits are being finalised.

Shravan Shroff honoured

Shravan Shroff,Managing Director,Fame Cinemas, was awarded the 2010 Alumni Excellence Commendation for Media and Entertainment by Peter M Varghese,the Australian High Commissioner to India at the Australian Embassy in New Delhi.

The awards are presented to individuals in recognition of their academic achievements and professional pursuits since studying in Australia.

Shroff,who has done his Business Management studies at the Melbourne Business School in Australia,said,“I am extremely honoured to receive this award. I learnt a lot academically and later on professionally during my years in Australia and I am grateful to the country for bestowing this honour on me.”
