Indian envoy’s car damaged in Maldives

Two unidentified persons riding a motorcycle threw a stone at the car while it was parked in front of the mission at Ameer Ahmed Magu.

The car of Indian High Commissioner to Maldives Rajeev Shahare,which was parked outside the High Commission in Male,was Monday damaged when unidentified persons pelted stones,official sources said here. They added no one was inside the car.

The incident was reported to the police at about 6.15 pm IST. A case has been registered and investigation is on.

A photo posted on a Maldives website showed the rear windscreen of the Mercedes-Benz was damaged. The incident comes in the backdrop of India asking the Maldives political leaders to hold the elections before November 11,so that they have a government in place. The Maldives Supreme Court annulled the elections of the first round,and the development has been viewed with concern by India and the international community.
