On the day the Congress government in Kerala completed two years in office, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi stressed on inclusive growth.
Addressing a party rally to mark the conclusion of the month-long Kerala yatra led by party state chief Ramesh Chennithala,Rahul said the Congress is inclusive of everybody and inclusive growth is its spirit. It is important that we never forget the poor. We have to pay special attention to SC,ST,fishermen and labourers. We have to reach out to these communities and understand their needs, he said.
Listing the achievements of the previous UPA government,Rahul said the opposition was working against the interest of the poor. Referring to the opposition stalling the food security Bill in Parliament,he said,I can understand politics. But I cant understand political parties hurting the interest of the poor.
He said the Congress has been working on the Bill for some time. But the opposition has been doing everything to stall the Bill. But it does not matter what they do. The UPA government is going to give you the right to food to ensure that no single Indian goes to sleep hungry. We believe that everyone in the country should be part of the progress in the country, Rahul said.
Taking on the opposition CPM in Kerala,he urged the Communists to look around the world and see why they are holding on to an ideology that no longer works anywhere in the world. The rest of the world has given up Communism. Even China has changed its approach. China itself has a different view of Communism from what they used to have, he said.
Union ministers from Kerala, including A K Antony and Vayalar Ravi, attended the meeting.
