His description of Manmohan Singh as the “weakest” ever Prime Minister of India in the run-up to the 2009 Lok Sabha polls may not have worked well for the party at the hustings, but BJP leader L K Advani still feels Singh is weak and because of this he is unable to avail of the authority innate in the office of the PM.
In his blog on the Prime Ministers of India, from Jawaharlal Nehru to Singh,Advani calls A B Vajpayee as the most outstanding. With Singh set to complete a decade in office,Advani felt it was a unique distinction for a person outside the Nehru family, but noted that he also holds the dubious distinction of being the only Prime Minister to occupy the office without ever being elected to the Lok Sabha.
Also,I cannot forget that when in 2009,I had described Dr Singh as the weakest Prime Minister the country has had some of my own colleagues felt that I was being too severe. But I still hold that it is this attribute of his weakness that makes him so subservient to 10,Janpath,and thus unable to avail of the authority innate in this office of Prime Ministership, he wrote.
And because to this shortcoming of Singh,Advani said history will record that while personally he may be upright, the government over which he has presided for a decade has been the most corrupt in free India.
