Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday said he was approached by leaders of the erstwhile Jana Sangh to join the outfit in 1970,but he eventually joined the Congress. Singh claimed that he had an offer from senior Jana Sangh leaders, including Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia.
Addressing a gathering at a function to mark the 75th birth anniversary of veteran BJP leader Kailash Sarang here on Saturday evening,Singh said that Vijayaraje had sent him on a tour along with her son Madhavrao Scindia and Sarang himself.
Sarang either failed to convince me properly or I failed to understand him and later joined the Congress, Singh quipped, adding that another veteran BJP leader,Kushabahu Thakre, also wanted him to join the Jana Sangh. Singh also insisted that there was no truth in reports that he was ever a member of the Jana Sangh or any Sangh outfit.
