House Panel to visit Mirchpur on Friday

There is fresh trouble brewing for Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as a parliamentary committee is set to visit Mirchpur village on Friday. Mirchpur,in Hisar district,has been in the news since April 21,when members of the dominant Jat community torched the houses of Dalits,leading to the death of an old man and his physically challenged daughter.

Sources said that an 18-member delegation of the Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes will meet the Dalits to assess the current situation in the village and ascertain the status of the relief measures announced by the state government for the rehabilitation of affected families.

The delegation will be led by Committee chairman Gobind Chandra Naskar from the Trinamool Congress and will include former Arunachal CM Mukut Mithi among others.

Sources said the Committee took note of an obituary reference made by Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar,herself a Dalit,to the Mirchpur victims on April 27,and resolved to depute a team to the village.
