Home stay scheme clicks in Himachal Pradesh

Home stay scheme in Himachal Pradesh,launched to provide quality accommodation at reasonable rates to tourists during the peak season,has clicked with more and more visitors preferring such accommodations to hotels.

The scheme was launched in 2008 to provide clean,comfortable and affordable supplementary accommodation to tourists in rural areas in the vicinity of famous tourist destinations when hotels and guest houses are packed to capacity.

Home stay units have evoked overwhelming response in Kullu,Manali,Shimla,Dharmshala,Palampur and Dalhousie regions with a very large percentage of tourists preferring to stay in small accommodations in clean homely environment instead of costly luxury hotels,a senior tourism department official said.

The occupancy of these units was nearly 100 per cent in peak season,Director Himachal Tourism Arun Sharma said.
