The Allahabad High Court Monday directed the Uttar Pradesh DGP to ensure no action was taken against BHU vice-chancellor Lalji Singh in connection with the warrant issued to him recently by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC).
Singh has been sent several summons and warrants from the NCSC on allegations of discrimination against the SC staff of the university. The summons and warrants were issued despite a HC stay in this regard.
The court has even sought explanation from the NCSC as to why the warrant should not be treated as contempt of court. The court also issued notices to the NCSC,state police officials and nearly half-a-dozen complainants who have approached the NCSC against the BHU authorities with allegations of discrimination against teachers, students and non-teaching staff of the SC community. The court has sought their replies after two weeks.
Earlier, the court Sunday stayed the arrest warrant issued against Singh in a special sitting.
A Division Bench of Justices Arun Tandon and Anjani Kumar Mishra ordered the stay on the warrant that was to be executed by October 28.
