The government has decided to appoint Gulshan Rai as the first National Cyber Security Coordinator as one of the first steps in putting together an elaborate cyber security structure to meet current and upcoming threats in cyber space.
Sources said that Rais appointment was recently approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security and the official would shortly join the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). Rai currently heads the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team. Rais appointment is one of the many steps that have been taken in recent months to shore up the cyber security network. As per the new plan, the new framework will be the nodal centre to deal with all cyber threats and security issues. The government had earlier taken a decision to set up the cyber cell with the NSCS that already has several officials, including a Joint Secretary, working full time on cyber security
