Increase in activity of various armed rebel groups along the inter-state boundary between Assam and Meghalaya has become a serious cause of concern, especially after these groups made several major strikes over the past one week,Assam CM Tarun Gogoi said here Saturday.
Several insurgent groups have become active along the inter-state boundary. The security forces have ascertained that the killing of seven persons in a village in Goalpara last week was the handiwork of United Achik Liberation Army. The GNLA has also stepped up its activities on the Meghalaya side close to our districts, the CM said at a press conference.
It is a matter of concern to us particularly because the area is close to the Bangladesh border, Gogoi said. The CM added that vigil along the inter-state boundary had already been increased.
