Gorkha Janmukti Morcha GJM Monday decided to suspend the indefinite strike in the hills for four days starting August 15. The decision came after an all-party meeting convened by GJM chief Bimal Gurung. The Trinamool Congress and the Left parties did not turn up at the meeting.

We want to give some relief to the people, said GJM general secretary Roshan Giri. The GJM leadership will hold a central committee meeting again on August 16 to decide on the next course of action.

Meanwhile,state police continued to mount pressure on the GJM by arresting over 20 leaders and cadres during the day.

Those arrested included GTA elected member from Kurseong Anuj Thapa and Darjeeling Municipality commissioner Zahid Khan who is also a member of the GJM.

With Mondays arrests,the total number of GJM leaders and cadres who have been arrested since August 3 rose to 200.
