A four-year-old girl who was kidnapped from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus about a month ago was found at Haridwar Railway Station in Uttarakhand,accompanied by her alleged kidnapper,Saturday. The man has been detained and a Railway Police team has been sent to bring the girl to Mumbai.
The incident had occurred in the early hours of June 11 when the girl,Sangeeta Laxman Pawar,was kidnapped by the accused while her parents were asleep near the waiting area at CST.
CCTV footage showed the man limp towards the family and then walk away with the girl in tow.
We received a call from the Haridwar Police who had spotted the girl from near a bus stop outside the Haridwar Railway Station. A constable had seen the footage of the kidnapping and identified the limping kidnapper. On questioning him,he confessed to the kidnapping, said Inspector Surendra Deshmukh of CST Railway Police.
The girls parents,who are daily wage labourers and hail from Parbhani district in Maharashtra,were called by Railway Police officials and have confirmed that the rescued girl is their daughter.
We showed them images of the rescued girl and they have said that she is their daughter. We are awaiting our teams return to the city and will arrest the man for kidnapping, said Deshmukh.
Medical tests of the girl have not revealed any sign of assault,said sources.
Officers of the joint investigation team investigating the rape and murder of three girls from the Cuffe Parade area since November last year had earlier said the kidnapper seen in the CCTV footage could be the culprit behind the deaths of two of the victims.
We will still interrogate him in connection with the case. The fact that the girl is alive and has not been abused,as was said by medical reports conducted by the Haridwar Police,suggests that he may not be the same killer, said an officer,requesting anonymity.
