Days after Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for poll boycott,a senior leader of the moderate separatist conglomerate has questioned the wisdom of such a boycott call.
To call for boycott of (state Assembly) elections is premature, said Hurriyat leader and chairman of Peoples Conference Bilal Gani Lone. Such (boycott) calls help mainstream political parties and they are strengthening their position, Lone added.
We called for the election boycott in the past also. But we will have to see how these (boycott) calls have helped our movement. We need to have broad consultations. Everyone should stop the practice of forcing his opinion on such a sensitive issue, he said.
