The injuries to the gangrape victim whose tongue was allegedly chopped off by relatives of the main accused on July 10 will not impact her ability to speak,Chief Medical Officer,Pratapgarh, Vinod Kumar Pandey said Saturday.

The minor victim is supposed to record her statement in the case before a magistrate on July 24. There is laceration,but it is not deep, Pandey said,adding that the wound was not 2.5 cm wide as had been reported. The victim has been given two stitches. The injury could have been caused due to tooth bite or an object that may fall within the category of a sharp-edged weapon,but with blunt margins.
