After going all out against the Naxals in recent months with clear success, the Gadchiroli police have now decided to reach out to them through their kin in the villages.
Under the initiative Nav Jeevan, the police are now presenting gifts and assuring them to fulfill their demands and aspirations. In return, the police want the families to persuade their Naxal kin to join the mainstream by surrendering.
We have been getting feelers from many Naxals who want to surrender, but they fear getting killed by fellow Naxals or arrested by the police. We are meeting their families to assure them that they would be able to surrender safely with pardon, said Gadchiroli SP Suvez Haque.
There are about 300 Naxals, including about 50 of deputy dalam commander, from Gadchiroli. Some are in Andhra Pradesh and others in Chhattisgarh or other areas of Abujmaad.
We have identified their families and will reach out to them, Haque said. Over the last two days the SP has visited the families of senior Naxals like Pahad Singh and Gopi. The two have been in the news for their attempt to surrender.
Gopi alias Nirigasay Darbarsingh Madavi has been an active Naxalite since 1997 and is now the commander of the Korchi-Khobramenh Kurkheda Dalam.
Haque met Gopis family at Korchi in north Gadchiroli. His niece,Anita Madavi, who had dropped out of school after standard VII,expressed her wish to join the ITI. We spoke with the Korchi ITI and will ensure she gets admission, Haque said. In Fafamar village in Rahnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, the SP met Pahad Singhs wife Shakunbai Kachlami, their two daughters and a son. His daughter,Chandrakanta,is in Class XI and a bright student. She has won a scholarship of Rs 500 per month. Another daughter is in Class VI and son in Class VIII, Haque said. Singh is the divisional committee member of North Gadchiroli Gondia Committee of CPI (Maoist).
The villagers said his wife was sarpanch but was ousted by in a no-trust motion, which reportedly led to Pahad Singh taking to Naxalism. We appeal to him to forget the past and surrender, Haque said.
The police said that they will put up posters in these Naxal areas assuring them of a safe surrender.
