From hospital bed, injured undertrial swears revenge

“It doesn’t matter that we were attacked today. When we get out, their (assailants) fate shall be the same,” Naseem said.

As he lay on a hospital bed at the PGIMS in Rohtak,Naseem, one of the two undertrials to survive the attack on a police van returning them to the Bhondsi jail from court, swore revenge.

“It doesn’t matter that we were attacked today. When we get out, their (assailants) fate shall be the same,” Naseem said.

In December,he along with Sri Bhagwan,Dilbag,Anil Fauji and Ranbir were arrested for their alleged role in the murder of Krishan,a hotelier.

According to police, these five men were facing charges in at least a dozen cases of murder, extortion and dacoity.

Senior officials suspect the rival Chippi gang was behind today’s attack but no one can say for sure.

Head Constable Vinod, who sustained bullet injuries in the attack, said: “It is not clear which group attacked the police van. These undertrials had killed people. We can’t say which group killed them today. Most probably the killers were from Karor village. A group there had old old enmity with these men.”

Late tonight, the IG of Rohtak range along with the SPs of Rohtak,Jhajjar,Sonepat and Panipat held a meeting in Jhajjar. Police said a few inmates at Jhajjar jail were also being questioned.

Investigating officials said the truck which rammed the police van had been hijacked from Bahadurgarh around noon today — less than four hours before the attack.

Mahender, the owner of the truck, said: “My driver was held at gunpoint and the assailants took control of the vehicle. My driver was beaten and made to lie down. He managed to run away away when gunfire started. He alerted us from someone’s mobile phone.”
