Former DUSU office-bearers enter the race for poll tickets

With political parties tapping into young leaders for boosting their prospects in the Assembly elections,several former office-bearers of the Delhi University Students Union DUSU have thrown their hat into the election ring.

Both the BJP and the Congress are tapping into young leadership. State elections are the natural stepping stone for student leaders like us, Dahiya,at present vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha BJYM,said.
Like him,Harsh Choudhary,a former DUSU joint secretary,hopes to get a Congress ticket from Sangam Vihar. In constituencies where a senior leader has been winning consistently or is popular,it becomes difficult for a young leader to get a ticket for that constituency. But in many constituencies,young leaders have a good chance of getting tickets, Choudhary said.
Today,we have a large pool of young voters. These voters connect easily with young leaders, Narender Tokas,a former DUSU president and vice-president who is vying for a Congress ticket from Mehrauli,said.
Rekha Gupta,a former DUSU president and two-time MCD councillor from Pitampura,is in the race for a BJP ticket from Trinagar.
The party leadership wants young leaders to come forward and contest the elections. The party is fielding a number of women candidates like myself who have led student unions, she said.
