After getting the green signal from the National Tiger Conservation Authority and the Wildlife Trust of India, the Forest Department has deployed teams of shooters to kill the maneater tiger in the jungles of Faizabad.
People in several villages have formed their own squads, armed with lathis,sharp-edged weapons and even country-made firearms to kill the tiger which has killed three people so far,the last being at Surajpur village on Saturday when it killed 50-year-old Sarju.
The Forest Department is unable to check the teams of villagers which have been searching for the tiger, although a maneater can be killed only by a team of professionals officially assigned the task so that some other animal is not killed by mistake.
Asked about these squads of villagers,Faizabad DFO O P Singh said these were illegal and if they killed any animal, they would be tried according to the law.
